The Pittsburgh Penguins did beat the clock and have acquired Lee Stempniak from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a 2014 third round pick.

Stempniak has 8 goals and 23 points in 52 games. Was a third rounder a bit of an overpayment?
We’ll see how this plays out. One reason the Penguins liked Stempniak is that he plays a blue collar type game and the team feel he adds versatility. He had a pretty good season last year with 9 goals and 32 points in 47 games.
Stempniak has the ability to kill penalties but I wouldn’t call him a power play guy. He has just 4 power play goals in his last 100 regular season games.
