The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded winger Jared McCann to the Toronto Maple Leafs just prior the expansion trade freeze at 3:00 PM. In the deal Pittsburgh receives a 7th round pick and reacquires prospect Filip Hallander.

McCann, 25, scored 14 goals and had 32 points in 43 games last season for the Penguins. He flourished for stretches when Evgeni Malkin was injured, especially on the power play. Pittsburgh clears $2.94 million in cap space with the move.

Pittsburgh planned to expose McCann and we’re not actively seeking a side deal with Seattle.

Hallander, 21, was the Penguins second round pick in 2018 (58th overall) and was traded to Toronto last summer in the Kasperi Kapanen trade. The 6-0, 190 lb center had 13 goals and 11 assists in 51 games for Lulea HF. [/hide]
