The Pittsburgh Pirates reached an agreement with 15th rd pick Drew Maggi (6-1, 180) late Monday night, a source with knowledge of the situation told Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
As a draft eligible sophomore Maggi was regarded as a difficult sign and will receive a signing bonus believed to be upwards of $435,000
The 6-foot-1, 180 pound shortstop batted .326 with 5 home runs and 41 RBI’s for Arizona State in 2010. Maggi is an exceptional base runner who stole 36 bases in 2010 and 21 bases in his freshman year.
Maggi has versatility throughout the infield, playing second base and batting leadoff for Team USA this summer.
The Pirates have now signed a total of 23 players from this year’s draft.
