MILLER, PEREZ ON PIRATES RADAR?
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been heavily scouting the Boston Red Sox this month. The Pirates had a scout in attendance for Jake Peavy’s start last night, though, the Pirates are not believed to have interest in Peavy.
Reliever Andrew Miller has surfaced as a player of interest.
Miller, 29, is 3-5 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. He has 61 strikeouts and 12 walks in 38 innings pitched. Miller making $1.9 million is a free agent at seasons end. He’s highly coveted but with the Red Sox hanging around, many believe they will hold off on selling.
Lefties are hitting .161 against Miller, righties are hitting .188.
Meanwhile, add the Arizona Diamondbacks to the list of teams the Pirates have been monitoring in search for bullpen help.
Pirates have been scouting DBacks relievers. Of note: A lefty by the name of Oliver Perez is part of the Arizona bullpen.

As Fox Sports Jon Morosi mentions, former Pirate Oliver Perez could be a player of interest. Perez has resurrected his career a reliever and has a 1.96 ERA in 36 2/3 innings and 10 holds. Perez has a 1.15 WHIP and 10.06 K/9. Right handed hitters are batting just .187 against Perez.
Perez has allowed 1 run in his last 25 appearances.
