The Pittsburgh Pirates have sent Pedro Alvarez back down to Triple-A Indianapolis. Alvarez is expected to stay in Indianapolis for the rest of their Triple-A season, which ends in about three weeks.
Alvarez is hitting just .196 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI’s this season. Since being recalled on July 25th, Alvarez was hitting .174 with 1 home run and 5 RBI’s. The Pirates feel they rushed him back last month and GM Neal Huntington didn’t make it seem like Alvarez was a lock to be recalled when the Indians season ends.
The demotion of Alvarez, cleared room for the team to activate Jose Tabata who will start in left field and bat leadoff.
Tabata will appear in his first game since June 26th, as he was hampered with a strained quad for almost two months.
Ryan Doumit coming off a big game last night, will bat cleanup for the Pirates.
