The Pittsburgh Penguins have expressed significant interest in Nashville Predators defenseman Dan Hamhuis but the Predators have not been engaged with Pittsburgh in trade talks as their efforts of late have been with the New Jersey Devils and the Boston Bruins, with the Bruins leading the chase, sources indicate.
The issue for Pittsburgh is that they don’t have much to offer in regards to an impact forward in return that the Predators covet. The Predators have expressed interest in Alex Goligoski, and to a lesser extent Ruslan Fedotenko but Pittsburgh won’t move Goligoski for a rental player I’m told.
Pittsburgh’s efforts for acquiring a defenseman are elsewhere for the time being, although Pittsburgh will continue to monitor Nashville’s asking price, in the hopes that it comes down this week.

Updated: A source tells me the Penguins are dangling Ruslan Fedotenko and a high draft choice and/or mid-tier prospect.
