Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach Jeff Banister will become the Texas Rangers next manager, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports. Banister goes to a good situation with an organization that will spend money and Banister will have a lot of talent to work with.
Banister has spent 29 years with the Pirates organization as a player and coach. He is well respected by players and around baseball. Banister’s stock has been on the rise over the last year and he had also interviewed this fall with the Houston Astros.
Banister was the primary runner up for the Pirates managerial position in 2011.
