Redman needs to contribute on special teams

Undrafted rookie running back Isaac Redman has not shown the ability to be a consistent performer on special teams, which will be his downfall to make the roster.
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated today again, that if Redman doesn’t show the ability to play special teams, he won’t make the team.
For a number of players on the bubble, Tomlin has stated all summer that versatility is the key.
Despite Redmans’ performance in the preseason and in practices, the chances are slim that he would see the field in a regular season game over Willie Parker, Rashard Mendenhall or Mewelde Moore.
Therefore, the Steelers are going keep a roster spot for a player like a David Johnson who can play special teams, tight end and fullback.
Summers needs to get on the field
*Running back/fullback Frank Summers is questionable for Saturday’s game. Summers is battling for one of the final running back spots.
He has the inside track over Redman because of his blocking ability and because he can contribute on special teams.
But Injury problems may derail his chances. He needs to get onto the field for Saturday’s game. Summers has also struggled learning the offense and some in the organization believe he would benefit on the practice squad for a year.
Dixon, McHugh, and Stapleton out for Saturday’s game.
*Quarterback Dennis Dixon (shoulder), right guard Darnell Stapleton (knee) and tight end Sean McHugh (knee) won’t play on Saturday.
Mendenhall to start over Parker?
Willie Parker (hamstring) may be held out of Saturday’s game. Parker is currently listed as questionable. Jeff Reed and Santonio Holmes are also questionable for Saturday’s game.
If Parker is unable to play, Rashard Mendenhall will start at running back and the team wants to get Mewelde Moore some much needed reps. Moore will see some time with the first team in the 1st half.

Many veterans are pushing for Stefan Logan to make the roster and he will have his opportunity to lock up a roster spot, Saturday night.
Logan is expected to split reps with Mewelde Moore to open the game.
Mike Wallace will return kicks first.
Leftwich not coming to Pittsburgh
Jason La Canfora of the NFL network reported Wednesday evening that Byron Leftwich is on the trade block.
Some in the Pittsburgh media are already speculating that Pittsburgh could be interested but Tampa is seeking a 4th round pick to move him and Pittsburgh can’t afford Leftwich salary.
Not going to happen.
