Gilreath ahead of others but spot on 53 FOR 5TH WR considered big longshot

A hot topic throughout camp and in the preseason has been who would win the 5th receiver spot for the Steelers. Leading into tonight’s preseason finale, David Gilreath is way ahead of Derrick Williams and Tony Clemons.
However, regardless of how well Gilreath or Williams play tonight, it’s likely not going to matter. The Steelers are believed to be set on carrying just 4 receivers this season as Todd Haley’s offense runs little to no five wide receiver formations and when the Steelers do, Heath Miller would be apart of that formation or running back Chris Rainey over any 5th wide receiver.
The Steelers have the option to place Gilreath on the practice squad in addition to Clemons.
