Pitt loses another recruit
Dave Wannstedt might be going thru the most difficult time since taking over as Pitt football coach. Recruiting players has always been one of his strengths. However, this off-season the results of his recruiting efforts have been disappointing.
Within the last hour, another WPIAL blue-chip recruit has made a verbal commitment to Penn State, rejecting the Panthers. Tom Ricketts, son of former Pitt All-American lineman Tom Ricketts, Sr. told Joe Paterno and Penn State he was heading to Happy Valley.
The 6-6, 265 lineman from North Allegheny joins fellow WPIAL prospects Miles Dieffenbach, Luke Graham, Paul Jones and Mike Hull in committing early to Penn State.
Losing Ricketts and Dieffenbach are huge losses for Pitt considering their connections to the Pitt program. Wannstedt and his coaching staff were stunned when they found out Dieffenbach would be heading to Penn State.
Ricketts picked Penn State over offers from Pitt, Boston College, Florida State, Maryland, Stanford and Virginia.
