Colorado 10 – Pittsburgh 1
The Pirates were limited to 3 hits, Jason Marquis pitched seven strong innings as the Colorado Rockies (64-51) beat the Pittsburgh Pirates (46-68) 10-1 Thursday afternoon.
Marquis (13-8) gave up one run and struck out six with three walks. Marquis became the third national league pitcher to reach 13 wins and the Rockies now have four starting pitchers with 10+ wins.
While the Pirates bats remained silent, Troy Tulowitzki and Clint Barmes each homered for the Rockies and Marquis had plenty of run support as the Rockies managed 15 hits on the afternoon.
The struggles for Paul Maholm (6-7) continued as Maholm allowed seven runs on 11 hits and struck out five in 6 1/3 innings.
Maholm is winless in his past 7 starts.
The Pirates have been outscored 18-1 in their last two games. The Pirates will travel to Chicago for a three game road trip with the Cubs, which begins on Friday.
