A source close to Ruslan Fedotenko has informed me this evening that Fedotenko has not received a proposal from Pittsburgh yet and there have been “no contract talks” to this point.
Fedotenko and his agent Allan Walsh will meet with Ray Shero in Montreal before the draft for what will be the first substantive talks on a new contract, according to Fedotenko’s camp.
Sources close to the Penguins indicate the Penguins are prepared
to make a three year offer worth $7.2 million but contrary to what has been reported, Fedotenko’s camp has indicated to TIOPS that an offer has not been made yet.
Fedotenko’s market value is believed to be at $3 million per season.
Walsh is believed to be seeking three years, for the term of the contract, which is what he got for his client Pascal Dupuis last summer.
Things will begin to heat up this week leading up to the draft.
As things stand right now (this could change within the next 48 hours), Mike Zigomanis and Bill Guerin are the two players who are the closest to agreeing to a new contract.
Talks with Guerin will pick back up as early as Monday and there has been constant dialogue with Zigomanis.
