The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a strong push to sign San Diego Chargers tight end Ladarius Green (6-6, 240). Albert Breer of NFL Network reports Green will visit the Steelers on Thursday.
The framework of a deal between the two sides is in place, a league source says. Barring any issues with a physical, Green is expected to sign with the Steelers.
[hide] A 4th round pick in 2012, the 25 year old Green was pegged by Steelers officials as their top target at the position.
Career high 37 receptions for 429 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2015. Runs a 4.53 forty and has good foot quickness. 26% of his 77 career receptions have gone for 20+ yards. Player with high upside who the Steelers feel would be a 50+ reception, 6-8 touchdown per season player in their system. [/hide]
wow, extremely cap friendly deal from Ramon Foster. 9.6 over 3 years, only 2.75 guarantees.
It’s a good deal. The Steelers actually will have a lot of room after they release Allen and Suisham, extend Thimmons and DeCastro thus reducing this year’s hit and then re-work Ben and Mitchell. Don’t forget to remove the recently retired Miller.
I think theyll be able to trade Suisham for a 5/6 come training camp time if Boswell continues to perform, but it wont save much in cap space. I think its something like 400K in savings this year if Suisham was off the team.
Cap hit around 2M for first year. Only 4.5M guaranteed. Beautiful. This is a steal.
Ladarius deal official. 4 years 20M
This isn’t baseball Sam they have a cap. And short of restructuring they’re already up against it.
And the Steelers just absolutely hate restructuring
I wonder what Brent Grimes wants? Dolphins just released him.
Going all in!
How does anybody know there won’t be room for Weddle? Green could be signing a nice cap friendly deal. They will never sign a top free agent cb, they are overpriced.
I agree with Tulli, there is a much deeper need in the defensive secondary and already the Steelers are following a common blueprint. Ignore the secondary and bolster the offense. I guess they’ll go secondary in the draft but we all thought that last year as well. Even if they do address the secondary in the draft…. How much do we expect inexperienced rookies to do?
Already? When does FA start again? Oh, it hasn’t yet?
Lol, they targeted a need and the interest was mutual, hence what appears to be a quick agreement when free agency DOES begin at 4pm.
Offseason off to a good start. Add in a starting CB/S via FA plus some talented depth and I’d be happy
Hell. Fn. Yes.
Assume we are not in on weedle then. And therefore we have cap space for a tight end. That being said I don’t see huge need for playmaking tight end. We have 5 great receivers and a two RB that are pass catching threats. Would rather put money into the secondary.
It’s doubtful they’ll be in on Weddle.
What about Weedle?
I hope he evolves to Kakuna soon
Define great. Because Under my definition they have 1 great WR, 1 promising yet inconsistent, one serviceable yet replaceable, a journeyman role player, and a question mark. You can never have too many weapons on offense.
Nice, but they’ll never recover without Mike Wallace.
