Off-Day Buzz: Sullivan not considering Goaltending Change
The talk of the Penguins needing to play Marc Andre Fleury has hit full stride over the last 24 hours. From some of the local media to the national media, the calls for Fleury to start Game 6 have been all over the internet.
Facts are any talk of the Penguins considering a goaltending change was media driven by the Fleury media friends crowd. Penguin coaches never gave much thought to one.
Win or lose, this is Matt Murray’s series the rest of the way and has always been once he led the Penguins to a 3-1 series lead.
Mike Sullivan today didn’t even bother messing with the Capitals to play a guessing game on who might start.
Matt Murray will start Game 6, Sullivan confirmed moments ago when meeting with reporters.
Murray is 6-2 with a 1.96 goals-against-average and .937 save percentage. He has posted a quality start in six of the eight games.
— Now that’s out of the way, one lineup change [hide] the Penguins will have to make is on the blueline.
Olli Maatta will return to the lineup and while there was some thought that Justin Schultz’ strong Game 5 and Ian Cole being benched in the third period following his penalty might lead to Cole coming out, but that is not likely to be the case.
Schultz worked as the 4th pairing and was off both power play units.
— Patric Hornqvist today said he was not injured in Game 5 and said he deserved to be benched.
Hornqvist says he didnt have his best game and didnt deserve to play. Says his limited ice time was deserved

Sullivan later called him a “warrior”
“He’s a warrior of a player,” Sullivan said.[/hide]
The best part of all of this is that with the exception of 1 or 2 morons like Rossi, I haven’t seen hardly anyone in the media saying Fleury “should be in net”, I’ve seen a lot of people wondering if it’s time to start thinking about making the switch but haven’t seen hardly anyone saying they “should” make the switch, even Madden who has been calling for the switch since Fleury was cleared has backed down and agreed they have to stick with Fleury for the remainder of the series. The only people even talking about it still are… Read more »
Stanch will be bummed. “Fleury is better than Murray”.
He is better than Murray. But I’m not bummed. Hasn’t played in a month. Have to stick with Murray.

st.bleury is a complete distraction to the team. they need to move him the day after the season ends. murray is 21, he is way cheaper, he is way better. next year murray will be the starter and next year all we will hear about from st.bleury’s media “friends” is how sullivan needs fired for benching a goalie who had 2 miracle game 7’s in 2009. the pgh hockey media has lost all credibility with their obvious fan boy love for their patron saint.
what happens if pens lose the series to the caps dont you think arrogant sully will get alot of heat
Yoda has already made the excuse in case the Pens lose the next 2 games. It’s Fleury’s fault, he’s a distraction to Murray.
the pens aren’t losing 3 in a row
Fleury will be the starter at the beginning of next season. Stamp it.
If the pens can move him for a good return, why not just sign a veteran to backup Murray. If they get past next season with both on their roster they may lose 1 of them for nothing.
Why sign a good vet when we can re-up Zatkoff… he is best goalie in system bro!
only from the fan boys
Care to put a little wager on who the starter is next season?
