STEELERS, ESSEX AGREED TO TERMS
The Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran offensive lineman Trai Essex have agreed to a one year deal at the league minimum. It is the Steelers third signing this week after agreeing to terms with tight end Leonard Pope and wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery.
Essex the Steelers starting right guard in 2009, provides depth at all three positions on the line. Head coach Mike Tomlin has become a big fan of Essex due to his versatility and ability to step up as the next guy, filling in for Maurkice Pouncey at center last December. “Trai’s ability to play center was pivotal to our success, ” head coach Mike Tomlin said following the Steelers Christmas Eve win over St. Louis. “Special afternoon for Trai, ” Tomlin said about Essex’s performance against the Rams.
