Too Little, Too Late for Glasnow?

The vibe surrounding Tyler Glasnow when the Pirates reported to spring training is he would need a lights out camp to start the season in Pittsburgh.

A month later things remain status quo.

A promising start from Glasnow on Saturday is not expected to change much on which direction the Pirates are leaning.

However, there is an internal battle brewing for the No. 5 spot and it doesn’t necessarily involve Glasnow.

Pirates coaches are pushing for [hide] Steven Brault to open the season as the No. 5, sources say. But, it’s not that easy.

Even before spring training began Drew Hutchison was being pushed on the staff for a number of reasons. He’s going to make $2.3 million this season and led by team President Frank Coonelly, the Pirates are always trying to play the PR game and Hutchison not starting the season in Pittsburgh and in the rotation, only adds more fuel to the fire of the Liriano trade being nothing more than a salary dump.

What the Pirates also haven’t had play out is someone push Chad Kuhl for the No. 4 spot.

The Pirates continue to play the waiting game with Jung Ho Kang………

“Still waiting on the visa process,” Neal Huntington told reporters today. “He continues to work out and work hard on his own. The challenge is he’s in the cold weather city. We continue to stay in touch with him. He’s doing everything he can do.”

Once Kang arrives, the Pirates are not sure how long Kang will need to get ready.[/hide]
