The Penguins on Tuesday struck a deal with the Colorado Avalanche in acquiring 27 year old defenseman Samuel Girard and a 2028 2nd round in exchange for veteran defenseman Brett Kulak. Kulak whom the Penguins have received multiple offers on since acquired in December, was strongly coveted by contenders and while viewed as a stabilizing precence the Penguins felt in helping rein in Kris Letang a bit, Pittsburgh has continued their stance of being open for business on a number of fronts. Despite Pittsburgh boasting one of the Top-10 records in the NHL right now, it’s easy to see why the Penguins went this direction.

In Girard the Penguins get a younger more proven puck moving defenseman, who can upgrade the Penguins ability to exit the join and join the rush. There’s no question arguments are made come playoff time a Brett Kulak helps you win than a Samuel Girard, especially in Colorado’s situation.
