I reported last night the Penguins latest offer to Ryan Whitney has been a 4yr – 14 million deal. It is believed Whitneys representatives are very happy with the offer but are seeking another year to be tact on. Regardless the two sides appear close on the framework of 3.5 million per season i have been told as of the this morning. The last issue is whether the Penguins agree to a 5th year. One thing about Ray Shero is unless the player is Sidney Crosby he is reluctant to sign players to deals longer than 3 to 4 years. I expect by the end of the weekend for the two sides to agree on a deal in the neighborhood of a 4-5 deal worth 3.5 million per season. Either the ( 4 yr – 14 million which has been offered or 5 yr 17.5-18 million)…..

The Penguins have not started neogotiations with Marc Andre Fleury about an extension but the two sides are expected to get together sometime in early August the Buzzontheburgh has learned. Some dialouge has been discussed and Fleury’s representatives are believed to be seeking a deal similar to what Cam Ward signed in late May. Ward will earn $2 million next season, $2.5 million in the 2008-09 season and $3.5 million in 2009-10. It’s up for debate whether the Penguins should make an long term investment in Fleury or whether they’ll wait to see how he performs this season and build off of that.
