For the second straight week East Carolina knocked off a top 25 team. Last week it was #17 Virginia Tech, but this week East Carolina took it another level and defeated the nations #8 team West Virginia.

The Pirates dominated the Mountaineers in all facets of the game. The Mountaineers defense was a major question mark heading into the season and this afternoon they were exposed. They struggled against the pass and they failed to contain East Carolina’s running game. Running backs Jonathan Williams and Brandon Simmons wore down the Mountaineers front seven which led the way for quarterback Patrick Pinkney to have a sensational game. Pinkney was poised and controlled the play. Pinkney finished the game going 22/28 – 236 yds – 1TD and West Virginia failed to make the adequate adjustments following halftime.
The play calling for West Virginia has to come into question. The coaching staff did not utilize Noel Devine like they should have and there weren’t enough running calls for Pat White. White’s greatest asset is his running ability. He was on the run all day but on many occasions it was because the line broke down.
