California University of Pennsylvania senior forward Kayla Smith (Elkins, W.Va./Elkins) was recently named to the State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team as selected by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Smith posted a career year this season, leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in scoring at 18.5 points and finishing fourth in the country with 12.4 rebounds per game. She also ranked among the league leaders with a .549 field-goal percentage (200-of-364) and averages of 2.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
A four-year starter, Smith finished her career ranked third in Cal U history and ninth in conference history with 2,096 points. She broke the school’s all-time record for rebounds this season and finished her career ranked second in PSAC history with 1,309.
In her career, Smith was a four-time All-PSAC West First-Team selection, capped by receiving Player of the Year honors this season. She also was named a Daktronics First-Team All-American this week and received All-America Honorable Mention from the WBCA in 2009 and 2010.
Smith is one of four different Vulcans to earn recognition on the prestigious WBCA All-America Teams in the last 10 years. Cal U Athletic Hall of Famer Sara McKinney was a three-time selection (2002, 2004, 2005), fellow Hall of Famer Becky Siembak was a member of the All-America Team and National Player of the Year in 2003 and Brooque Williams was an All-American in each of the previous two seasons.
