Inside Analysis
Today’s game saw a lot of scoring chances and solid goaltending. Marc Andre Fleury and Danny Sabourin performed well. Fleury made some big saves on Sidney Crosby and Luca Caputi.

Jordan Staal had a breakaway early in the game but missed stick side. Staal is gradually getting accustomed to playing wing and looks more comfortable every time he steps on the ice
Luca Caputi had two scoring chances on his first two shifts. Caputi is one those players that the puck just seems to follow. Caputi had four shots on goal by the 7:00 minute mark of the second period. The coaching staff has to be happy with the way he played today. Caputi just needs to work on his skating a bit.
Sidney Crosby’s line showed a lot more chemistry today then they did yesterday. They were making a lot of plays around the net and Satan just missed on few prime scoring chances right in front of net. There was one instance where Crosby made a backdoor pass and Satan never expected it. It went off of Satan’s stick and wide of the net.
Kris Letang was jumping in the play a lot today. The Penguins are going to need to him to do more of that with Ryan Whitney out of the lineup.
The coaching staff has stressed to Jeff Taffe that they wanted him to work on defensive zone coverage and through two scrimmages he appears to have responded. Taffe has been in great position and has done a superb job of helping out his defenseman down low. Tyler Kennedy was all over the ice again. I would say Taffe and Kennedy are locks on the fourth line
Janne Pesonen didn’t do much in the scrimmage. What I’ve noticed from him the past two days is he tries to make too many moves on a defenseman at the blue line. There were a few occasions that stuck out to me when he was coming down the sideboards against Hal Gill. Players in the NHL are bigger and stronger and Pesonen will have to make the adjustment quickly. What he needs to work on is chipping it past the opposition and go get it.
Danny Richmond was solid again for the second straight day. He made some great breakout passes and was jumping up in the play more than he did yesterday. Richmond made a cross ice pass to Miroslav Satan near the end of the second period that stood out to me. He has good vision.
Adam Henrich and Connor James have done a solid job at cycling the puck in the offensive zone. There were a few instances where Tyler Kennedy was on a long shift with those two and they controlled the puck in offensive zone for 15-20 seconds.
Defenseman T.J. Kemp was paired with Hal Gill today and moved the puck well. Kemp at age 27 is no longer a prospect but will provide some depth in WBS.
Dave Gove will be a nice depth player for WBS. Gove centered Aaron Boogaard and Paul Bissonnette today. Boogard and Bissonnette created a lot of space for Gove who has some offensive ability. Speaking of Boogard, he has made more of a presence on the ice then Godard has. Godard will not see a lot of playing time this season. He’ll be a Riley Cote kind of player
Max Talbot ‚Äì Ruslan Fedotenko ‚Äì Matt Cooke were effective today playing an dump and chase game. I like the chemistry I‚Äôve seen from those three. Fedotenko scored a tic-tac-toe goal in the third period. Fedotenko is in a perfect role as the team’s third line left winger
The first three lines are set going into the season. Dupuis will remain on the first line. Therrien likes his speed and back checking ability. The main spot that is up for grabs is 4th line left winger
Ryan Stone and Jonathan Filewich did not participate in the team’s scrimmage. Both did practice. Don’t know what to take out of that but it is likely not a good thing. I’ll have some answers in the evening. Filewich has been an major disappointment and I don’t see him having a place in the organization any more
