CALIFORNIA (April 27) – Former California University of Pennsylvania wide receivers Dominique Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington) and AJ Jackson (Lehigh Acres, Fla./Lehigh) were recently invited to tryouts with the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants, respectively.
Last year, Curry and Jackson helped lead the Vulcans to an 11-4 record, a fifth-straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West title, a consecutive appearance in the PSAC Championship and a third-straight NCAA Super Regional One Championship.
Curry played in 11 games last season after playing three seasons in the PSAC East at Cheyney. A former three-sport star for the Wolves, he showcased his athleticism on special teams this year by making 13 tackles (nine solo) and blocking two kicks Over his four-year football career between Cheyney and Cal U, Curry posted over 2,200 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. The Philadelphia native represented the Vulcans at the Valero Cactus Bowl, an all-star game for NCAA Division II seniors, in January.
Jackson established himself as one of the premier wide receivers in the country during the 2009 season. He led the conference and set single-season school records with 1,424 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns on 101 receptions. The Florida native ranked second in the nation in both receptions and receiving touchdowns. An Associated Press (AP) and D2Football.com All-American last year, Jackson set a new career school record with 28 receiving touchdowns and finished fourth with 2,130 receiving yards in only two seasons with the program.
On Monday, Cal’s Terrence Johnson signed with the New England Patriots and defensive end Willie Walker signed with the Cleveland Browns.
