The Pittsburgh Pirates are bringing Jeff Karstens back who will be a welcomed addition to the clubhouse. Karstens and the Pirates have reached an agreement on a one year deal, a team source confirmed. The Tribune-Review reports the deal will come in around $2.5 million.

Karstens was non-tendered by the Pirates in November after he was projected to earn $3.8 – $4 million. He made 15 starts in 2012 and went 5-4 with a 3.97 ERA. Karstens gives the Pirates a middle of the rotation and bullpen option.
The team is still in talks with Francisco Liriano but it’s unknown whether the two sides will re-work a new agreement.
