STEELERS – THURSDAY
Kelvin Beachum, as expected, will not play Sunday vs the Miami Dolphins. That means Mike Adams will be put back in the starting lineup at left tackle. It will be Adams first start at left tackle since week 4 vs the Minnesota Vikings.
Adams was a disaster at left tackle in the first four games of the season, which prompted the Steelers to trade for Levi Brown who didn’t make it past warmups. Kelvin Beachum has shown some promise and some in the organization believe he can be an adequate left tackle moving forward.
Adams has performed well in running blocking situations over the last couple weeks as an extra tight end/linemen, but he’s played mostly on the right side where he’s much more comfortable. Adams is intriguing as a run blocker which to no surprise was a strength of his in college.
The knock on the Steelers around the league is that despite having a $100 million quarterback, they have been so obsessed with wanting to establish the run and get back to 1970’s football, that they’ve been drafting run blocking linemen instead of pass blocking linemen. Nonetheless, this is a big start for Adams even if it’s just for one week. A great game could get him back in the left tackle discussion for next season.
