Defenseman Brooks Orpik was injured in Saturday’s 4-1 win and team sources are already telling me he has been ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

The extent of the injury is not clear and as of last night Orpik was expected to fly back to Pittsburgh to be evaluated. That is never a good sign.
Will try to gather more information this afternoon. Pittsburgh is scheduled to practice today at 1:00 p.m. in Minnesota.
Deryk Engelland will be called up to take Orpik’s spot in the lineup, if Orpik is deemed unavailable to play the rest of the road trip.

.

The Penguins won’t callup Ben Lovejoy to be the 7th defenseman and sit on the bench. If Lovejoy is called up, he will play.
Updated: Brooks Orpik did not practice today and remains ruled out for tomorrow’s game, sources indicate.
Dan Bylsma claimed after practice that they are treating the unknown injury “day-to-day”.
Orpik did not fly back to Pittsburgh and remains with the team in Minnesota for the time being. The Penguins will wait to make a roster move until Orpik is re-evaluated on Tuesday.
Right now indications are the injury is not severe.
Martin Skoula will return to the lineup.
