Lawrence_Timmons TUESDAY’S STEELERS BUZZ
“Good team win,” Mike Tomlin said today at his weekly press conference of the Steelers 30-23 win over the Texans.
The win vs the Texans didn’t save the Steelers season, it kept them relevant for now.
If the Steelers are able to split their next two games against two superior games, than suddenly the Steelers have some momentum going and would be sitting at 5-4 going into road games against the Jets and Titans.
Big picture, despite scoring 3 touchdowns in 73 seconds, the more positive takeaways last night came from the defense, notably Lawrence Timmons and Jason Worilds.
Timmons and Worilds are the Steelers two best defensive players and both players have been largely inconsistent this season. Both had their “A” games going from the second quarter on.
Timmons collected 12 tackles, sack and 2 tackles for loss. Worilds had 7 QB hurries and forced a fumble.
Timmons, Worilds playing at a pro bowl type level is critical for the Steelers moving forward and the signs were there last night that both might be on the verge of breaking out.
Other than the 73 second scoring surge, it wasn’t a great night for Steelers offense. Nothing from the offense last night suggests they are going to be able to come out and outscore the Colts. The Steelers again left a lot of plays on the field, aside from their scoring surge late in the second quarter.
The defense getting two, three turnovers and handing the Steelers gimme touchdowns inside the 10 yard line, isn’t going to be a regular thing.
TOMLIN ON HIGH SCORING COLTS
  • “Boy, they’re scoring points in bunches,”
  • “We have to work to minimize Andrew Luck with what he’s able to do with his legs and arm.”
  • “At tight end Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, both guys are highly productive. Fleener is a big time vertical threat….. That pair has 8 touchdowns.”
  • “Reggie Wayne has Hall of Fame Credentials”
  • “TY Hilton one of the bright young receivers in football.”
  • ” [CB] Vontae Davis playing Pro Bowl type of ball. Good collective, team defense. Going to challenge us schematically.”
TOMLIN CALLED TRICK PLAY LEADING TO BROWN’S TD PASS

Ben Roethlisberger revealed on his weekly radio show (11:00 AM on Tuesday’s, 937 The Fan) that Mike Tomlin called the trick play that saw Antonio Brown throw a three yard TD pass to Lance Moore.
Tomlin wouldn’t confirm he called the play, claiming “he calls all the plays.” — Yeah Okay
“Idea was to score,” Tomlin said. “Antonio has proven to be a guy who can deliver plays for us. Don’t think that’s the first ball he’s thrown this year. Just want to put the ball in our playmakers hands.”

MORE BUZZ
— The Steelers anticipate getting Ryan Shazier and Shamarko Thomas back in the lineup this week vs Indy. Shazier is expected to be put right back in the starting lineup as Sean Spence just isn’t the player he was when drafted.
ABTweet.0.0_standard_709.0Antonio Brown had some choice words for the refs on social media, a play that should have stood as a touchdown.
“I don’t get into the social media stuff,” Tomlin said. “Was an extremely close play.”
Markus Wheaton played just 31 snaps and had no catches as he continues to regress. Tomlin claims he’s not worried. “I’m not, no,” Tomlin said. “He’s working extremely hard”
