Three Things to like From trade of Olli Maatta

Pittsburgh Receives: Forward Dominik Kahun, 2019 5th Rd Pick
Chicago Receives: Olli Maatta
Trade Buzz: The Olli Maatta era is over in Pittsburgh. A Maatta trade by the draft has always been an expected Development and the Penguins tonight have traded Maatta to the Chicago Blackhawks in-exchange for forward Dominik Kahun and a 2019 5th pick.
The Penguins in the deal get a cap savings of $3.158 million with the trade of Maatta to Chicago and add a skilled young player on a cheap contract to their bottom-6. Kahun who can play all three forward positions, had 13 and 24 assists in 82 games for the Blackhawks in 2018-2019. The 23 year old on an entry level contract carries a $925,000 cap hit for one more season.
What’s enticing with Kahun is the $925K cap hit and there’s a bit of upside as he can make skilled plays, especially in the playmaking department. Pittsburgh also adds some speed to the forward group.
Three things to like from Pittsburgh’s end with this deal is the:
1. cap savings
2. Depth scoring/cheap labor
3. Speed
“Dominik had a great rookie season with the Blackhawks. He is a speedy, versatile player capable of playing all three forward positions. He also saw time on Chicago’s power-play and penalty killing units.” — Penguins GM Jim Rutherford via press release[/hide]
Does this team trust Teddy Bleuger to play 4C? Is McCann a winger or a C? If winger, is he on the Crosby line? I assume they keep Bjustad at 3C. Can we please keep Simon on the 4th line where he belongs. Hornqvist, 2nd or 3rd line? Same question for Phil. How do you round out the 4th line.
How about an article about something other than lies about your inside sources.

That doesn’t excite me about a forward unit. Better use that 5.5 in space to get some punch at W.
It’s June. You don’t set lines in June, especially considering they will probably make more moves. What’s the point setting lines when the roster isn’t even set and the season is almost 4 months away?
Setting your lines dictates the moves you make in the next 30 days…which is when the free agency moves that matter happen.
No one sets lines in June. Ever. There’s zero point in doing so. You make moves based on the team’s identity and needs, not lines. Lines change constantly due to player performance and injuries, making them irrelevant this time of year.
Well according to Dustin coaches do NOT make in game adjustments either so take it all with a grain of salt.
NHL coaches are a joke. They have a system they instill when they first get there, then they turn into motivators. If you can keep the players happy and they produce with your system, gold. If they don’t, you can try and line shuffle to get them going. If that doesn’t work, you’re done. If you think coaches change strategy mid-game, then you are an idiot. Other than ok, go into trap mode in the 3rd to protect a lead, there are no hockey mid game adjustments. This isn’t football where you can change formations etc. There’s a reason only… Read more »
Its about time as same said he won’t fetch the value penguins looking for by time they trade him. Same will happen for the Russian and chubby longer they keep the shitierr return they will get. Only big valuable player out there is Crosby.
Oh yeah and another thing NPL suckss so does the DemocRATS
They got plenty of value. They got a young player coming off a strong rookie season, a pick and over 3 million in cap relief. Again same proving to be a bandwagon fool.
How does one have 13 and 14 assists in 82 games? Last time GMJR created $5 million in cap space by getting rid of garbage they handed it over to JJ. Please don’t mess this up again.
Good deal. Now trade Letang.
Trade him and get Subban.
Damn did Maatta’s value drop like a ton of bricks.
I think Marta if he can stay healthy BIG IF Is still you g and night fit with the Blackhawks…
Are you drunk? Lol
Wow. Impressive haul
You’re clueless. Instantaneously over $4 million in cap space. Very big haul indeed.
Exactly right. It was a salary dump and a good one. But don’t embarrass yourself by overhyping Dominik Kahun, who you never heard of before yesterday.
I thought Kahun was a wing flavor. Guess it’s a LW for the Pens now.
