Latest Penguins Buzz
Will the Penguins dip their toes into an intriguing free agent forward market on July 1?
Anyone who knows Jim Rutherford won’t be surprised to see him try to get creative and add an impact player.
The ability to create cap space during the draft weekend will tell the story, something the Penguins are seeking to do.
Nonetheless, the Penguins will be kicking some tires on two notable free agent targets when the interview process begins on June 25, Inside Pittsburgh Sports has learned.

No one has ever let the dumbassses in Toronto establish the market
ha apparently i got fake mckenzie’d on that bishop trade to cgy.
Been there, buddy. I once called my friend because of a tweet from @TSNBubMcKenzie.
i hate that SOB
Bub McKenzie, ill never know him again by any other name haha
rutherford is saying that he’d like to have both st.bleury and murray on the team to start the season. that is a bunch of BS. that is a media nightmare waiting to happen. if st.bleury is on the team, that means that nobody wanted bleury and the pens are stuck with him, just like i said could happen. what a nightmare situation. that’s why you don’t lock up choke artist goalies until they are 35 for a 5.75 cap hit and a no movement clause. way to go rutherford!
Rutherford won a cup. He’s terrible. Fleury has been far from our problem the last two seasons. Keeping fleury gives us some insurance which I like as long as they can trade him before this expansion crap starts. If not we will probably lose Murray which I don’t want to happen.
pens should only consider trading fleury at the trade deadline now its too soon we have seen many hot goalies then become ordinaire Ward,Dubnyk,Hammond to name a few
You’re a complete buffoon.
Outdoor games this year
Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic: Edmonton Oilers at Winnipeg Jets, Oct. 23, 2016.
NHL Centennial Classic: Detroit Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs, Jan. 1, 2017.
Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic: Chicago Blackhawks at St. Louis Blues, Jan. 2, 2017.
Coors Light NHL Stadium Series: Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins, Feb. 18, 2017.
I guess they feel like they haven’t beaten that to death yet (psst, they have)
the pens are going to have to move st.bleury for a 5th round pick and retain half of his salary. also i read st.bleury didn’t request a trade. why would he? he’ll have the fan base and the media demanding murray being on the bench so the patron saint of “legendary smiles” can play. he knows he is a saint in this town. he isn’t going to want to leave.
Someone needs to change the record – it’s skipping.
Anyway we can trade our American bennett for the Canadian bennett
What is this “we?” You’re from Montreal. There is no we. And I thought the Pens were trading Bennett for Drouin. Please reconcile.
Murray’s RFA status is going to be very interesting come next off season, unlike with most players who have comparable situations when they start restricted free agency, there really is no established market for what would be considered fair. There’s also no telling how potential offer sheets from other teams could effect his price tag, as of right now another team can go as high as 5.4M an offer sheet and will only have to give up a 1st & 3rd, even going as high as 7.3M would only cost them a 1st, 2nd & 3rd, assuming Murray is the… Read more »
That would suck but I would guess the pens will try and get him signed this season especially if Fleury is traded.
Lecavalier officially retires today
Should have happened 4 years ago – the useless frog.
That frog carried the team on his back for many years he and St.louis. And now they forget them just like Stamkos. Arrogant organization
Mario carried THIS team on his back, too. Doesn’t mean it matters in 2016. Lecavalier has been stealing a paycheque for years. (I did that for you. Frog)
So we are now talking about stealing paychecks for many years now then how is Parise, suter doing with their paycheks dipietro and Gomez did it for many years as well and Howard is soon joining that club too
Better than Toews, that’s for damn sure.
Mckenzie is saying the flames are offering bennett and two 1st rd picks for bishop. That is insanity, especially if fleury for #6 was too high
I’d move Fleury for JUST Bennett. So I find that hard to believe.
mckenzie said bennett and two 1st rd picks lebrun is saying just 1 pick.
agreed, id be jumping for joy if the pens got bennett
I might kick in something else to get Bennett – like Pouliot, if you don’t see him in the team’s future plans. $6 million in cap space and Sam Bennett? Yes please.
im a pouliot believer but agreed
This is what scared me before. If the flames go a different route it will be very tough to trade fleury as there is no market for him.
Neither you, me, nor anyone else here knows what the market is. Every time someone makes a comment like this, a team comes out of left field. I remember when there was never going to be a market for Scott Gomez, too, and then french moron Bob Gainey not only made a market, he made a market whereby he gave up Ryan McDonagh for him.
Can we trade our bennett there
Kingpuck, you hearing anything?
Kingpuck heard that Dalton Prout was going to figure into this somehow.
Fleury’s contract is a steal the problem is they have to many forwards getting big money now let’s say fleury is gone for sure Murray won’t sign anything less then 5m when his time comes up then team will be in same situation
Plus we don’t know if Murray can play 60+ games and yesterday Ken holland saying there is maybe less then 10 goalies out there that can play 60 +games a season when he was asked about his struggling goalies last season
Next year the pens get Murray for nothing. The following year kunitz and daley are off the books. Murray, Dumoulin, Pouliot and Bonino will need new deals. Considering Dumoulin/Murray have never received a good contract I’m guessing you could get them signed to a similar deal to Maatta. Bonino might be interesting to see what he wants. Hopefully he takes a bit of a discount to play with haglin and kessel. Murray is making entry level money and hasn’t played a full NHL season, how can you say for sure he won’t take anything less than $5M. That’s just stupid… Read more »
Because he has a Stanley Cup on his resume look at Anderson RFA that just signed 5.5 with the Leafs
So, he’s never received a big pay day. I could see him taking a Maatta type deal or a smaller bridge contract.
Last time I checked 25 divided by 5 was 5M/year. Anderson has also played 3 full NHL seasons and posted very good numbers and the leafs over paid him a bit but they didn’t seem to care. Anderson is also 26 years old and on his 3rd contract. Murray will be on his 2nd after the end of next season and is 22. Anderson’s 2nd contract was 2 years at a cap hit of $1,150,000. Based on your logic with Anderson we should get Murray for under $2M/year on a bridge deal. Not 5+.
Anderson was often injured in those years
Bishop to Calgary
Link?
For some fun, who wins: 2009 Pens or 2016 Pens? Maybe its due to how fresh this team is in my mind, but I think 2016 beats the shlt out of 2009. This is/was an incredibly skilled, cohesive hockey team that I believe wiuld have skated right past the 2009 team. Gill/Scuderi would have had a long series imo.
Scuderi would’ve shut Crosby down just like he did to ovi apparently
I mean, there are enough people that have had success shutting down Crosby – it’s possible.
wish could say the same about your russian but he shuts himself down in his penalty box when the game Matters most
I think the Pens got lucky in 09. Boston was knocked out by Carolina. Datsyuk was injured in the Finals. 2016 Pens basically steamrolled the top teams but those teams goaltenders were spectacular. Not sure if 09 Fleury can hold the fort against 2016 attack. Also, as good as Malkin and Crosby were in 09, I think 2016 team can slow them down, smother them with speed.
That’s such a hard question to answer, the 2009 version saw the core being the young players that need to be supported by older vets, the 2016 version saw the core being the older vets and supported by the younger players, I’d probably lean toward the 2016 team just because of the experience difference of the core from when they were young in 2009 to now being the chiseled vets. Depth is very important but any team only goes as far as their core takes them and I think overall the core was better in 2016 than in 2009 even… Read more »
This year’s pens also would have had a hard time with assfucking-mode 2009 Geno / Sid. It’s hard question. I think it’s a closer series than NPL suggests – but i think I ultimately agree that this year’s team edges them out.
Howard, Anderson, Bernier, dubnyk and there are more all getting fleury type money they all deserve it except for fleury according to Yoda
Why your name Samtheman you realise michael sam is man in your relayshinship? #SamJoke #NailedIt
Why you always come on this site you still don’t realize it’s a sports site and not Facebook
Its also a pittsburgh sports site not a canadians site..but you seem to forget that
Calgary Sun reporting JR is asking for Calgary’s 1st (#6) for Fleury.
That should be the starting point. Although I bet there’s a better chance they gamble and offer next year’s #1. At that point, I’d opt for NPL’s suggestion of Poirier, or maybe a Mark Jankowski and a third round pick instead. If Cory Schneider got a #9 overall, and Martin Jones and Frederik Andersen net first round picks, that’s the minimum JR should be asking for. I think a goaltender with two rings, 357 wins and 2 finals appearances is worth a little more than those other goons.
Not according to yoda
Everyone wants to crap on MAF, the guy has been outstanding the last two years. It is a shame he wasn’t able to prove himself in this years playoffs, I’m sure the result would have been the same. This is coming from someone in the goodbye horse toothed jackass department. Stanch is right you start with their 1st and go from there. The Flames would be getting a franchise goalie not a backup.
I agree with that too – they win the Cup with Fleury this year. Especially the way he played all year. It’s actually likely that it’s more convincing, assuming his play from the regular season carries over. The only time he had a hiccup was after his first concussion in February – lasted a few games, then he was right back where he started. Unfortunately, in the playoffs, they didn’t have the “few games” to let him work through it again. Make no mistake though – him and 71 – they’re why they made the playoffs despite Sid being on… Read more »
Also agreed. The Pens finally played this thing called defense, blocking shots as if the pucks were semen and their bodies were Sam’s mouth, and Fleury wasnt able to enjoy it. Id love to see him in the cup final next year, play like Martin Jones did, but ultimately get beat by the better Pens team. Yoda will still say it was Fleurys fault, but the people on Earth would feel validated.
Asking for Calgary’s 1st rounder is crazy. Yes Fleury has done a lot of things but the goalie markets are barely ever that high. Fleury is 32, has concussion issues and there are not many teams interested in him. Bad market, low demand and the expansion draft will make it tough to get much for Fleury. Rutherford has pulled a rabbit out of his ass before though so if he can get Calgary’s 1st I’ll bow down.
Did Simply Dustin hack Lancer’s account? Of course he’s asking Calgary for the 6th overall pick, it’s called negotiating, you start by asking for as much as possible then work your way down to a fair deal. I’d be disappointed if GMJR wasn’t asking for the #6 pick, it’s unlikely he gets it but it’s impossible to get it if he never asks for it.
I get asking for the moon but if it insults the flames enough to move on then it’s risky especially when you don’t have many other interested teams. If we had 3 or 4 teams who wanted him then sure ask for the 1st rounder but when you have just the flames and maybe the sens then I think you need to be a little more realistic and not insult the only interested party.
If Anderson got $5 million, what is Murray going to ask for after next year?
I’d say a lot of that depends on what happens this year.
Chubby traded yet?
Bennett injured yet?
Why bring back Porter unless it’s just to be in W-B Scranton
It’s a two way deal. He’s not exactly signing on to be a mainstay at the NHL level.
Seems like a waste of 500,000 in cap space
It doesn’t count against the cap if he’s in the minors.
Yeah – apparently he missed that part.
What do you want for a 500k, 2 way deal? Chill out.
To be a WB.
I guess we can all scratch Boedker and Ladd from the list as Depaoli doesn’t know jackshit. The Pens have no interest in Schultz!
Pens should hold onto fleury for now. Market sucks
you can’t keep him. he is a distraction. the media will cry if he isn’t in there and they will hate murray because st.bleury will be backing him up.
I bet he’d still get 60% of the starts. As he well should. But you’re a fraud. You wouldn’t understand. Distraction!
Hey Yoda what do you think Andersons contract vs fleury’s would you at least admit his contract is a steal compare to Anderson and Jimmy coward
He won’t though because he is a fucken filthy fuckface cuntbag!
st.bleury is the worst playoff goaltender in the NHL since 2009. i wouldn’t pay him a penny because i would never put him on an NHL roster. the regular season doesn’t mean $hit.
If it didn’t mean shit, why didn’t Calgary compete for the Cup last year? They should have just said “what do you mean we don’t qualify for the playoffs? The regular season doesn’t mean shit!”
Youre a fucking idiot!
Well, if Frederick Anderson, a goalie that couldn’t even hold his starting job, nets you a 1st and a 2nd, I’d say that Yoda’s on par to, yet again, be dead on with his prediction of a 5th round pick for a goalie with 360 wins, 2 rings, and 2 finals appearances. Way to go, Yogurt! You fucking retarded fraud.
I remember yoda said 3 years ago that Fleury would be traded in the offseason. That seems to be working out well.
jimmy howard another Fraud
Nobody knows being a fraud like you do Sam.
Not half the fraud Toews is.
Buffalo Sabres obtain the rights to Jimmy Vesey for a 3rd round pick. Maybe he actually will get to play with Franson…wrong city and whatnot, but still….
If the Sens are thinking about doing it, and everyone knows it, would it really be a surprise?
Boedker? This new article brought to you by… Me!
kicking the tire season has officially started…..you’re welcome
i’m hoping st.bleury goes to ottawa. it will be meltdown city. unlike in pittsburgh where st.bleury acheived his sainthood status because of his “legendary smile” and loved regardless of his results, in ottawa, he will be expected to win and in canada they boo choking goaltenders. lets not forget it is a french speaking city which will make him more of a nervous wreck. if st.bleury performs his 4th miracle and would do okay and get the senators in the post season, there is a good chance the pens could play them. ottawa would then get killed with in part… Read more »

Is the domini effect already taking place on the marc andre fleury trade front?
Would rather have Ladd for the money they’d presumably have to throw at Boedker. They have the speed guys already. More is nice but isn’t necessary. Kunitz will need replaced here coming soon and Ladd fits the bill perfectly for that. Plus he’s a good room guy.
Ladd strikes me as a guy taht can become useless in a hurry. I love the way he plays. Love the character. But there’s a toll that comes along with playing the game the way that he does. And I’m not sure that’s a tax I want to take on, personally. Oh, and yoda is a fraud.
I mean it’s all dependent on be type of deal he wants. The way I’d see it is he’ll probably want a two year deal max with a contender at lower money.
I’m on board with a 2 year deal. But these guys – how often do you see that anymore? He’s going to want a 5/6 year deal – one final contract. And I don’t blame him. I’m just not giving it to him. You guarantee me a 2 year deal? I’m with you, schaff.
Ladd will want more security than a two year deal even with a low cap hit I wouldn’t go over 2 years with him. Handing 4-5 years to Boedker for similar money makes more sense in the long run.
all hail st.bleury!
Fraud
Amen. Biggest fraud ever.
Gay Fraud
Boedker would be great! Cap space could easily be had given MAF trade for picks/prospects and potential Kunitz trade for low pick/prospects. I see Boedker netting $5M AAV, which may be too rich for PIT, however.
every potential winger ever is / has been viewed as a potential long term fit for either crosby or malkin.
also every available winger wants to play in pittsburgh
Trade Flower and sign Boedker if he is like Haglin. I don’t know much about Boedker though as I don’t watch the west.
Pens to visit Le Mausolee Bell on October 18th for the Habs home opener. Wonder if anyone shows up this time.
