The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Trevor Smith from Wilkes Barre/Scranton, the team announced. Smith is second on Wilkes Barre with 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points.
Smith a skilled forward in the minor league ranks, has appeared in 23 career NHL games, collecting 3 goals and 6 assists.
Last season for Tampa Bay, Smith had 2 goals and 5 points in 16 games.
Smith’s callup is for insurance as winger Matt Cooke has been dealing with a nagging injury. Head coach Dan Bylsma, though, said that Cooke will play tonight.
