The Pittsburgh Penguins efforts have turned to defenseman Sergei Gonchar and forward Billy Guerin.
Penguins GM Ray Shero met with Bob Murray the agent for Bill Guerin today in what is being described as the first set of substantive talks.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, talks were productive, with both sides agreeing to talk again this weekend.

The hope for both sides is to put the parameters of a new deal in place by the end of the weekend.
“Will talk with Ray again this weekend, ” a source in Guerin’s camp told Inside Pittsburgh Sports. “Pittsburgh is where Billy wants to be, ” the source added.
Guerin, 39, will turn 40 in November. He made $2 million last season and has full intentions of playing next season and clearly wants to remain in Pittsburgh.
The veteran forward had 21 goals last season.
