Former Colorado Rockie outfielder/first baseman Brad Hawpe has signed a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team will be bringing Hawpe into spring training as a non-roster player
Hawpe, 33, last played in the Majors in 2011 with the San Diego Padres when he batted .231 with 4 home runs and 19 RBIs. Hawpe’s best years came as a Colorado Rockie under Pirate manager Clint Hurdle. His career year was in 2007 when he belted 29 home runs and 116 RBI’s. From 2006-2009, Hawpe posted four straight seasons of 22 home runs or more.
His play though has diminished since hitting .289 with 23 home runs and 89 RBIs in 2009.
Hawpe is a career .276 hitter with 124 home runs and 490 RBIs.
