Pirates closing in on deal
Is the Lyle Overbay era coming to an end? The Pittsburgh Pirates have scouted Baltimore Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee heavily this week and are involved in serious with the Orioles about acquiring the 35 year old veteran.

Lee is batting .246 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI’s this season. Lee was 0-for-4 today against the Yankees but was hitting .351 in his previous 10 games.
Lee is batting .321 with 3 home runs and 13 RBI’s since the break.
A deal could be finalized as early as tonight as the two sides have moved closer to a deal withing the past couple hours. The deal will involve both sides picking up some of Lee’s salary and the Pirates sending a prospect the other way.
Pittsburgh has been monitoring Lee for a few weeks not but did not engage in trade talks until yesterday.
The team had looked into Cubs first baseman Carlos Pena leading up to the deadline but the team has backed off Pena as the Cubs intend to hold onto him.
