The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Pirates have traded shortstop Jack Wilson to the Detroit Tigers but at this moment the Pirates have yet to confirm the deal. The Tigers have been showing the most interest in Wilson for some time. The Dodgers, Orioles have had discussions with the Pirates about Wilson and a mystery team believed to be the Cleveland Indians have made an inquiry
Wilson is set to earn $7.25MM in ’09 and has an $8.4MM club option for ’10 with a $600K buyout.
4:35 p.m. The AP Reports, “After talking with Pittsburgh, the Tigers are now looking at Adam Everett, the person familiar with the Tigers’ talks said. Everett has played only 114 games the last two seasons with Houston and Minnesota. He hit .213 in 48 games with the Twins last season, missing extensive time because of a shoulder injury.”
5:03 p.m. The Dodgers and Tigers want the Pirates to absorb atleast $3.5 million of Wilson’s contract. The Tigers are offering pitcher Luis Marte/prospect according to a source. The Orioles remain on the outside and won’t get involved until the Jake Peavy situation is resolved.The Orioles are believed to be the third team in the Peavy talks.
